Challenges Facing our Nations School Districts
School districts in the United States have been facing new challenges in delivering instruction in the classroom.  With the passage and administration of the NCLB legislation, school districts face ongoing demands to improve teaching and learning to increase achievement results.  Yet, all too frequently, districts, today, are forced to manage the delivery of instruction with declining funding. 
 
The 21st Century Learning Mission
There has been a movement in education to advocate reform in teaching and learning in our nation’s schools in response to these challenges.  The mission of this movement, entitled 21st Century Learning, centers upon the thesis that with economic globalization, expansion of networked communications worldwide, and advancements in technology, students in our nations’ schools must be prepared to live, learn, and work in a rapidly changing society.
 
To prepare our U.S. students to be successful, school districts need to help students develop skills in the following core subjects, 21st Century Learning Themes, and Life & Career Skills.
